Styling an Armoire

Image
1. Image via Are you lucky enough to have an armoire somewhere in your home, if you are, they are the perfect piece of furniture to display some much loved items on top or around. Styling an armoire is much like styling a console , however you have to remember that you will be looking up, not down so using small, low items just won't work, a group of larger objects however can make quite an impact. Remember to vary the heights of whatever object you choose to help create balance, play around with different items and positioning until you feel they look balanced. I normally display my collection of blue and white china on my armoire, however I sometimes change it up for a rustic look such as in image 4 (below). I have been looking around for some images to inspire you with decorating an armoire yourself and if you don't own one,  Chairish.com  have a fabulous collection of Armoires  in almost any style you could want, including many bargains at under $500 which is practica...

This Week's, Spaces I Love - An Eclectic Mix of Console Vignettes

Image
Graciela Rutkowski Interiors This week's spaces are an eclectic mix of consoles vignettes, interesting pieces of furniture and well chosen display pieces. I have a slightly eclectic mix in my home so its not surprising I am drawn to the eclectic styles in today's post. Creating a stand out vignette takes more than simply placing some ornaments or decorative items on top of a table or tray. Varying heights from lowest to tallest, mixing materials, an odd number also works better than an even one, there are many things to think about to create a balanced look. If you want to learn more about creating the perfect vignette you will find a link at the end of this post. Designer Shelley Morris's Eclectic Abode

Image
Shelley Morris of Shelley Morris Interiors chose an eclectic look for her home in New Canaan, CT. Originally a mid-century, ranch style house Shelley has reinvented it in her personal style. We don't often see inside an interior designer's home, although a few years ago I did share  Auckland interior designer, Andrew Melville's home (since sold), so when we get this opportunity, it gives us an insight into their personal style.  Interior designers are usually given a brief by their clients, it is seldom they have an entirely free rein, therefore, to see their 'personal' style we need to visit their abode, and today I am sharing the fabulous eclectic style of  Shelley of Shelley Morris Interiors . Originally Shelley's home was of mid-century ranch house style, however you would never know from the amazing transformation it has had. The exterior has been given a traditional feel with mullioned windows and a grand portico over the entrance. The square courtya...
