A Traditional Interior With a Little 'Jour De Vivre'

Image
Recently I featured a  contemporary coastal design from Interior designer, Anna Braund , today I want to share another project by Anna, but this time a modern take on 'traditional'. Anna Braund was a Top 10 Nominee in HGTV's Fresh Faces of Design Awards and I am not surprised as her projects are stunning. Her designs go from a neutral Hamptons, to bold, brave, colourful projects. I feel that being a  'young' entrepreneur in the design world does have it's advantage as the younger generation seem to have fewer boundaries and restrictions when it comes to interior design (although I might get shouted at here). Anna pushes these boundaries and in this project mixes up antiques and classic furnishing with strong colour and pattern giving this home a little, 'jour de vivre'. When I talk about boundaries, for example in image 4 (the kitchen), Anna has hung a traditional oil painting below the kitchen cupboards, a simple but unexpected move that really works in...

Tips on Choosing Art for a Coastal Inspired or Hamptons Interior

Image
Photo by Blackband Design - I chose this image of water because of the restful movement and colours. This art would also work well in a bedroom because of its almost hypnotic effect Choosing artwork can be quite a challenge regardless of your home's style, have you ever taken a piece of art home to find it doesn't suit its surroundings, it's a very disappointing feeling as art is not just visual, it can be quite an expensive investment. If you have a neutral, Hamptons style home, when it comes to art, the world is your oyster as long as you remember a few important points. Art is a personal choice, it is about what catches your eye, maybe a subject matter you are passionate about, or maybe it is about colour and texture and of course you have to like the style whether a traditional oil painting, abstract or photographic piece. Why art looks great in a gallery but not in your own home is usually because of the following: Art is too large or too small for a wall/room Art is ...

A Napa Farmhouse by Artistic Designs for Living

Image
Few words are needed to describe this stunning, Napa farmhouse... Tineke Triggs is the designer behind 'Artistic Designs for Living' , voted, "Best of Houzz" for the past 5 consecutive years, there is no doubt in my mind that Tineke has great style. Far from what I would describe as a traditional Farmhouse, Tineke has blended traditional with contemporary, added a touch of industrial putting together a unique look for this  Napa Valley home . Of course every farmhouse needs some rustic touches but the ones Tineke has incorporated add more an air of grace. Above: The colour and style of this cabinet are similar to those at my beach house Above: And the doors on this vanity reflect the style of my barn doors at the beach house. I always felt that my beach house had a touch of farmhouse to it. The farmhouse is only one of Tineke's projects, she also has a clever eye for colour so you may be surprised by some of her more colourful projects such as her   decorator sh...

Tips on Decorating a Sunroom or Conservatory

Image
Image via Martha O'Hara Interiors A while back one of my regular readers left a comment on Facebook  she was looking for ideas to re-decorate her sun room,  I haven't covered the subject of sun rooms or conservatories previously so I thought I would write a short post on decorating hints and of course some lovely images to inspire. When it comes to furnishing a sun room or conservatory there are certain aspects to consider, so let's cover these briefly to help you create the perfect space whether it be solely a sun room or a sun room with a multi-purpose use such as the dining spaces in the images above and below. Above: Image via Pinterest Purpose: Think about how you want to use this space, do you want to curl up on a comfy chair with a good book, or could it double as dining room if you are short of space elsewhere (images above). If you are using it as a place to relax then you may want to add a coffee table or side tables (room permitting).  If it is more a conserva...
