An English Coastal Cottage in Beaulieu

Image
symmetry is perfect for an entrance, it creates a sense of balance and is the perfect introduction  Most coastal homes featured on my blog are usually Hamptons style and located in the USA, however, today I wanted to share an English coastal home. British interior designers tend to be more traditional than US designers and in this particular case, as this home's location to seaside and countryside go hand in hand, the designer has blended country and coastal and a smidgen of France for a more traditional look. One thing that British 'coastal' homes usually have in common with their US counterparts is they can be built from similar weatherboards. I mention this as most UK buildings are built from brick or stone, there are very few wooden houses in the UK and the few that are, seem to be located either in areas like Suffolk or coastal locations such as this traditional cottage in Beaulieu, Hampshire. The interior design of this coastal home is by  Stephanie Dunning  w...

A Shed for All Seasons

Image
The perfect garden shed/studio is as much about the outside and how you integrate it into your garden as it is the inside and how you decorate it. This characterful garden shed belongs to Mar Jennings and features in his book, "Life on Mar's". Mar Jennings is not only an author, he is a talented Lifestyle expert, designer, blogger and an Emmy nominated TV host. After sharing an inspirational garden office last week, I thought you might like this little shed as a complete contrast to the white contemporary garden studio I shared previously. This little shed not only has function but its clever architecture adds immense charm. Lavender coloured Wisteria, winding and twisting its way around a pergola leads towards the garden shed (image below) in Mar's Connectcut garden. The images are from  Mar's book "A Four Season Garden", a "photographic essay documenting the four seasons of a garden as seen and photographed through the eyes of Mar Jennings"....

Trending - Garden Studios/She Sheds/Man Caves

The geometric tiles on the floor in this studio are perfect for indoor/outdoor living and the pattern adds interest to the otherwise white interior. "Garden studio's, man caves, she sheds, tiny houses", call them what you like,  these small spaces detached from the main house are on trend and with some careful planning and a little design   flair you can turn these rooms into creative outlets. Imagine your own little world where you can pursue a hobby, work from home, or simply relax, away from the hub and noise of the main house. As I type this blog post, I am sitting in my new, garden studio, a place I had built to paint, sit, reflect, read, work on my blog or relax to music. Located off the back deck, it is the perfect "Zen" spot and I LOVE mine with a capital L. I have been waiting for this moment what seems like forever and although it seems a bit mean not sharing images in this post today, I have some finishing off to complete and a major window to be repl...
