A Contemporary, Californian Farmhouse

Image
As a design blogger, I am constantly looking at beautiful homes and gathering ideas for myself and others and I believe this exposure has influenced me greatly in being a little more adventurous with my own interior style. I used to have a house full of antique pieces but now I prefer  a mix of contemporary and traditional furniture. I still love traditional style, however I realise the most interesting spaces are when designers mix things up, especially in a building that has contemporary architecture and this is why I love this Californian Farmhouse so much. I think what's most important when designing the interior of your home is that it reflects your personality, its important to keep your identity. In saying that it is also important to be brave and be a little more eclectic in style. If you decide to build or move to a contemporary space and your furniture is traditional, it would be a mistake to give it up and start again. Look at what you have and choose to keep some of the...

The Perfect English, Country Cottage

Image
The epitome of an English, country cottage conjures images of those pictures we see on chocolate boxes and English postcards. Quaint, thatched roof buildings with mullion windows, surrounded by an overflowing garden filled with the scent of the old fashioned roses. Today's home tour is what I would call a 'true English, country cottage'. Thatching is a dying art but there are still skilled thatchers in the UK that are kept busy restoring or repairing the artful roofs.  The  interior design of the cottage is by  Stephanie Dunning ,  Stephanie has worked with the owners to retain the cottage appeal, however she has blended old and new for a less traditional look. Bold colour has been used in some spaces, (see the library shelves of navy blue) and antique art pieces lie adjacent to contemporary works, giving the home its uniq...

An Italian style Villa in Greece

Image
Of course a Greek bathroom has to be marble Today I thought I'd whisk you away to the blue skies and azure seas of Greece, where a short stroll away from the port of hydra, lies a stunning, 18th Century, stone mansion. Originally designed by Genovese architects, hence its likeness to an Italian villa, the mansion perches on a hillside with country and coastal views. Mandalay (as it is named), is 630 square metres of stunning architecture, originally built for a major ship-owning family as their home. Furthermore, if you have more than a few million to spend, Mandalay is currently for sale with  Christies  ($5,993,877USD)...I'll have two please, if I win the lottery that is.  Above: perched on a hillside with magnificent views of surrounding Athens, lies Mandalay. You could easily feel like your in Italy   Above: Every villa needs a pool and this one is in a perfect shady spot to escape Athens summer heat Above: A stunning wooden ceiling soars above this living s...
